General Questions:
What is the age limit for clients?
We have no age restrictions for our clients.
Why do I have to go through an assessment to be seen?
Regardless of whether your child has had a psychoeducational, neuropsychological, or diagnostic evaluation in the past, our assessment helps us determine exactly where to begin with your child’s therapy. Any previous evaluations will provide us with important information about areas your child might need support with and recommendations for treatment, but does not prescribe a specific treatment plan. Our assessment allows us to build a strong therapeutic foundation for your child and your family by developing a unique treatment plan based on your child’s current needs, goals, and skill sets.
My child is suicidal, can they be brought in more quickly for services?
Possibly. We still need our intake paperwork returned to schedule an appointment. While you work on filling that our, we work with our counselors to determine how quickly we can get you in for an appointment. If we can’t get your child seen in a timely manner, we will provide you with an appropriate referral within the business day. Please keep in mind that if your child is actively suicidal, please take them to your nearest Emergency Room or call 911. Florida Children’s Institute does not provide Emergency Services.
Are ongoing appointments going to affect my child going to school?
Most likely not! We are open Monday through Thursday until 7pm, and Fridays until 6pm, so most of our clients are seen in the afternoons after school.
How often are groups (aka Bootcamps) offered?
Our Bootcamps run year-round. Each month during the school year, we have a group dedicated one week out of the month for different age groups ranging from preschool through middle school. We also offer a high school group in December, and we offer summer camps in June and July. For a full list of our current and future Bootcamp offerings, please check out our Bootcamps page!
Do I need to be a current client to join a group?
No! We do require a brief assessment with your child before they enroll in groups to ensure that they are a good fit and will benefit from the groups you’re interested in, but your child does not need to receive individual services from FCI in order to join our groups.
Billing-Related Questions:
Do you take Insurance?
No, we are a Private Pay facility and are not in-network with insurance. We are in-network with the FES scholarship (formerly PLSA/Gardiner). We can also provide out of network reimbursement forms for you to be able to submit directly to your insurance company.
How does insurance reimbursement happen?
If you provide us with a copy of your insurance card, we can call your insurance company to determine your eligibility and benefits coverage for the services we provide. If eligible, we provide you with a 1500 form, or a universal insurance resubmission form, and an itemized invoice on a monthly basis for you to submit directly to your insurance company. You can contact your insurance company directly for more information, as the specifics of submission (digital, mail, etc.) vary from company to company.
Do you take the Family Empowerment Scholarship (formerly PLSA/Gardiner)?
Yes! We can bill clinical services directly to FES.
